Stitch Your Brain: the international embroidery project

We’re very excited to be sponsoring the Stitch Your Brain competition again this year, an innovative creative project run by visual artist and medical doctor Monika Auch. Read on for inspiration from last year’s winners, and to find out which book is up for grabs this year!

Stitch Your Brain is super-simple – you order a kit, stitch it with whichever patterns, yarns and colours flow from your fingers, then email in a photo or scan of your finished brain. By submitting your stitched brain to the project you are automatically entered into the competition. And what’s more, the winners will be on show at a Stitch Your Brain exhibition at the Textile Festival, Leiden, in May this year.

Winner 2014

This is the brain of Elise van Melis from The Netherlands, who won 1st Prize in the 2014 competition: a copy of Hand stitch: Perspectives and £50 to spend on the Bloomsbury website.

Second place 2014

This is the brain of Emma Tschierschke from Germany, who won 2nd Prize in the 2014 competition: a copy of Hand stitch: Perspectives.

This year you’ll be competing for a copy of Stitching Pictures: Combining Print and Mixed Media with Stitch plus £50 to spend on the Bloomsbury website. 2nd prize will also receive a copy of this book, plus their choice of a second book.
